THE PRESS-ENTERPRISE

RIVERSIDE--A Riverside woman died Thursday afternoon in a collision, but authorities are still trying to determine what caused the crash.

The Corner's Division of the Riverside County Sheriff's Department identified the woman as Bette Pinkerton, 62. The man's name was not released.

Pinkerton was a passenger in a 1998 Toyota Camry driven by her husband, who survived in critical condition, said Riveride police Sgt. Duane beckman.

The car swerved into opposing traffic lanes and then down an embakement in the 600 block of Central Avenue, Beckman said.

"He hits the curb and vaults up the embankment and then down into the ravine, striking a large tree," he said.

Information from a witness indicated that Pinkerton might have suffered a "medical emergency" just moments before the wreck. Beckman said there were no skid marks at the scene.

An autopsy will be permforme to determine the woman's cause of death. Anyone with information may contact the police at (951) 787-7911.
